Set low in the landscape, the residence uses mass and shade to stay comfortable through extreme seasons. Its forms are simple, its openings deliberate.
The Brief
Design a retreat that feels protected from the desert climate while staying connected to its vast views.
The Approach
Thick walls store and release heat slowly. Openings are recessed to control glare, and courtyards create cooler microclimates between the rooms.
